Meet The Clinicians

Richard F. Koup, D.M.D.

Dr. Rick Koup has been practicing dentistry since 1974.  After graduating from The University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine in 1974, he joined the United States Air Force in St. Petersburg, Florida, where he served as a dentist to the enlisted men and women.  During this time, he also was afforded the opportunity to serve in a mini-residency in oral surgery.

Upon completion of his commitment to the Air Force, Dr. Koup returned home to Paoli in 1977 at which time he established his private practice on Paoli Pike.  He also taught at Penn Dental and treated children in a specialty clinic.

During the 1980's, the practice grew, and Dr. Koup moved to the Paoli Medical and Professional Commons at the end of the decade where the practice again expanded.  The practice welcomed his youngest son, Mark A. Koup, D.M.D. in July of 2005.

Dr. Koup has been honored in 2006 and 2008 by his peers a top dentist in Main Line Today magazine and belongs to the American Dental Association, the Academy of General Dentistry as an accredited Master of the Academy, and currently serves as president of the A.V. Purinton Academy.

A graduate of Great Valley High School and Ursinus College, Dr. Koup's interests include his grandchildren, fishing, boating, and his beloved golden retriever Misty.

Mark A. Koup, D.M.D.

Dr. Mark Koup graduated from The University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine in 2004.  At Penn, he was president of Psi Omega Dental Fraternity and served as a peer tutor in the preclinical laboratories.

He completed a General Practice Residency at York Hospital in York, Pennsylvania in 2005 where he performed hospital dentistry and gained considerable experience in oral surgery, pediatric dentistry and implantology.  Upon completion of his residency, Mark was presented with the Golden Forceps Award for excellence in Oral Surgery among his peers.

Dr. Mark Koup has been with Richard F. Koup D.M.D. & Associates since 2005.  Mark also serves as a Clinical Associate at The University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine where he teaches clinical restorative dentistry two days a week to junior and senior dental students.

Mark was honored by his peers by being named a top general dentist for 2008 in Main Line Today.  Fellowship eligible in the Academy of General Dentistry after completing the requisite 500 hours, Mark also belongs to the American Dental Association, the Pennsylvania Dental Association, and the Academy of Stomatology.  Mark is also an active participant in the Dawson Center for Advanced Dental Study and the Greater Philadelphia Dental Seminars.

A graduate of Great Valley High School and Muhlenberg College, Mark's interests include guitar, mixology, Philadelphia sports, and racquetball.

Carole Bala, RDH

Carole Bala has been "hanging around" Dr. Koup's office for over 15 years.  She is a graduate of Bergen County Community College where she was awarded her A.A. in hygiene and later graduated from Bloomsburg University.  Carole is married with two sons and a grandson.  Still a hockey mom, Carole enjoys photography, quilting, and picture framing.

Heather Bixler, RDH

Heather Bixler has practiced Dental Hygiene since July of 1994.  She graduated from West Virginia University in 1994 following her studies in Hygiene, and she is currently married with four children.  In her free time, Heather enjoys golf, skiing, and travel.

Cindi Cantwell, RDH

Cindi Cantwell has practiced hygiene for 26 years.  She graduated Magna Cum Laude from MCCC in 1980 in addition to being a 3rd generation PSU alum.  Cindi and her husband have been married for 28 years, and they have three children.  Having been with this practice for 15 years, Cindi's outside interests include Little League, township park/recreational governance, and travel soccer.

Linda Scholtz Gular, RDH

Linda Scholtz Gular has practiced dental hygiene with either a general practitioner or periodontist for 39 years.  She earned her A.A. in Hygiene from Fairleigh Dickinson University in 1967 as well as her B.S. in Education from West Chester University in 1970.  Linda is married with a daughter who attends Kutztown University.  Linda is also active in Valley Forge United Methodist Church, and her interests include elder care, piano, and horticulture.
